Grayson Co. man charged with murder after shooting victim dies 45 days later

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - A man shot at a Sherman mobile home park in September has died from his injuries.

The suspect, Gregory Cheatham II, is charged with murder.

Police say they responded to a call on September 24 saying Cheatham threatened to shoot Antarious Byers.

When officers arrived on the scene they said Byers had been shot by Cheatham in the stomach with a handgun.

They say Byers jumped out of the window to escape and was laying on the ground when they arrived.

He was taken to Texoma Medical Center where he was flown to a Plano hospital. His mother, Rita Byers, says she was with him for 45 days at the hospital while he underwent 11 surgeries before passing November 8.

Rita Byers says her son was living with Cheatham, who was dating Antarious' cousin.

Antarious Byers has three children who are now without a father.

Cheatham is being held in the Grayson County Jail on a $1 million bond.
