SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - Grayson County made history Saturday as they hosted the county's first ever Pride Event.
Grayson County held its first ever pride event Saturday.
Organizers of Grayson Pride said they had been wanting the even to happen since a 7th grade transgender student in Achille received death threats last August.
Saturday, hundreds of people showed up to the Pecan Grove West Park in Sherman for the event, where organizers said the entire community was welcome.
"We realized that we had a lot of help and a lot of support, we thought maybe we can really pull this off, and we began to make plans to have the festival here," said Grayson Pride Vice President Kodi Miller.
"I thank the community for putting so much into this, because without them we couldn't have done this. This has been fueled by the community," said Grayson Pride President Valerie Fox.
Organizers say they plan to make this an annual event for Grayson County.
