WAPANUCKA, Okla. (KXII) - The Johnston County Sheriff's Office says two people have been arrested for murder after an investigation into a missing person.
The Sheriff's Office says a missing person report filed May 14 in Wapanucka turned into a homicide investigation.
48-year-old Stephen Simonds was reported missing by his family after they had not seen or heard from him since May 8.
An investigation led to the discovery of a body in Coal County, just north of Wapanucka. Deputies believe the body to be Simond.
Deputies say 36-year-old Nakoda Brumley was arrested Wednesday for first degree murder. 51-year-old Johnny Lowe Jr. was also arrested Wednesday in connection with the case.
"I can't say enough about the assistance provided by the Coal county Sheriff's Office and Coal County emergency response personnel who spent some long and arduous hours searching and ultimately locating the victim's body," said Johnston County Sheriff Jon Smith.
Brumley and Lowe are being held in the Johnston County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are likely.
