Johnston County declares emergency proclamation

JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) - A unanimous vote in Johnston County has made the county a disaster area.

Johnston County Commissioner Mike Thompson says the proclamation allows the county to receive aid from the State of Oklahoma and U.S. Government.

Thompson says a second unanimous vote allowed parts of the courthouse to remain open.

"We're trying to look out for the folks of Johnston County, but we're also trying to provide services just as long as we can because we believe that's the essence of our business," Thompson said.

As of Thursday, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Johnston County.
