SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) -- A Grayson County jury will continue deliberating the fate of a Denison man charged with murder Monday morning.
Jordan Ballard is accused of shooting and killing an unarmed man in his yard three years ago.
Prosecutors said back in 2015, Ballard shot and killed Justyn Simmons, and fired at Simmons' brother, Victor- his then-girlfriend's cousins.
Prosecutors said in weeks before the shooting, Ballard hit his girlfriend.
When they came to check on her, Ballard grabbed his gun and fired when he saw them walking towards him, he says in self-defense.
He's been in federal prison since 2016 because as a felon he couldn't legally possess a firearm at the time of the shooting.
He faces 15 years to life if found guilty of murder, and five to life if convicted with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
