SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - Sherman city councilman Kevin Couch said he would be resigning from the council at the next meeting on Tuesday.

It comes after Couch announced he'll be running for state representative for District 62. He said he didn't want his attention to be divided in two roles.

It is also a state law that you must resign from a second position within a year of the election.

Couch said he's proud of what he's accomplished during his time on city council and is unsure who will run for his position.
