Lamar Co. woman pleads guilty in murder re-trial

LAMAR COUNTY, Tex. (KXII) - A Lamar County woman being re-tried for murder in the death of a retired teacher has taken a plea deal.

Ashley Morrison, 22, pleaded guilty to her part in the 2014 murder of retired North Lamar teacher Annie Sims in exchange for a sentence not to exceed 30 years.

Morrison was convicted in 2017 and sentenced to 30 years in prison, but a Texas appellate court reversed the conviction in March 2019, sending the case back to court for a new trial.

Sims's grandson, Christian Sims, took a plea deal in October 2016. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
