ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - National and state legislators met with citizens in Ardmore Friday to give their last update of the legislative session.
U.S. Sen. James Lankford appeared to speak on U.S/ trade situations and how tariffs are impacting local business in Oklahoma.
Sen. Frank Simpson and Rep. Tommy Hardin also said they had a successful session and hope to build on their success.
Topics included criminal justice reform and government accountability, as well as education.
Simpson said he went into this session to put more money in teacher's classrooms.
"So we were able to compromise with the House and the governor and provide a $1200 teacher pay raise and get another $77 million in the classroom," Simpson said. "My goal was $200 million. $77 million is a step in the right direction. And we will continue to address classroom funding in our next session."
The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce will host a similar event with city leaders at the Ardmore Convention Center on July 17th.
