Man arrested after disturbance at Ada Walmart

ADA, Okla. (KXII) - A man has been arrested after a disturbance at an Ada Walmart led to an evacuation of half the store.

Ada police say they were called to the Walmart on Monday for a larceny complaint of a customer drinking beer in the store's front restroom.

Officers say they found Gary Simmons inside the restroom with two open cans of beer. They say Simmons refused to come out of the stall before he pulled a sheathed knife from his waistband but did not brandish it.

After his arrest, officers say Simmons told them he was taking the knife out because he was going to come out of the stall and talk to officers.

Inside the stall, officers found a six-pack of beer with four empty cans.

Simmons was taken to the Pontotoc County Jail on charges of unlawful carry of a weapon, public intoxication, having an open container of alcohol, larceny and disobeying a lawful order.

Employees evacuated the front half of the store until the scene was clear.
