DURANT, Okla. (KXII) -- A man was injured Tuesday morning when a home exploded just outside of Durant.
It happened on North McLean just before nine.
Jerry Baker was inside at the time of the explosion. He walked to a neighbors house before his mother picked him up and took him to a local hospital.
Baker was then transported to a hospital in Plano to treat second degree burns on his face and arms and first degree burns on his chest and neck.
Durant Fire Battalion Chief Steve Wilson said the house was engulfed in flames by the time they got there. A lack of water made putting the fire out that much more difficult.
“There’s no plugs in this area so we were relaying water with the pumpers until we could get the tanker here," Wilson said.
The house is owned by Baker's mother.
Wilson said she did not have insurance.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
