SHERWOOD SHORES, Texas (KXII) -- A boat stall at the Gainesville Boat Club in Sherwood Shores collapsed while it was being torn down, killing one of the workers.
According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, John David Jackson, 34, was killed in the accident.
Paramedics said Jackson was stuck under the building for about 20 minutes at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. When EMS finally got him out to perform CPR, it was too late.
"I ran over right away to see what I could to help," Jane Samsel said.
Samsel said she owns the boat stall on Lake Texoma that collapsed.
"They tried to do CPR for at least 30 minutes, but I think the injuries he sustained were too severe," Samsel said.
"It was a bad scene because it was very difficult to get to the man," Sherwood Shores Fire Department Deputy Chief Joe Winner said.
Samsel said she hired a man named Rex Vic to rebuild the stall after it was damaged by the flooding last year and to follow the rules in place by the Army Corp of Engineers.
"The corps rules they had to be metal so we were in the process of rebuilding a new boat house," Samsel said.
"They were working on it and dismantling it and then there was a collapse," Winner said.
Winner said there was a group of people working on it but most were on break when it collapsed. Only the contractor and the man killed were present.
"Rex Vic had tried to do CPR on him until the fire department came and he did all he could to try to keep the roof trusses off of him," Samsel said.
Samsel said the family of the man killed came to the boat club as soon as they found out what happened.
"I feel so bad for the family, that's the hard part," Samsel said. "We didn't expect anything like this to happen in the rebuilding of our boat slip."
The Grayson County Sheriff's Office has taken over the investigation.
