GAINESVILLE, Tex. (KXII)-- The Runnin' Red Food Store on West California Street was closing just after midnight on Monday.

That's when 36-year-old Jarred Kajuan West of Dallas, walked in.

When the store manager, Khalid Malik told him they were closed, West said "that's why I'm here", and told Malik to fill up a bag with money.

Malik said, "The rear end of the gun, the pistol I can see and he said I will not hesitate for a second to shoot you."

Malik says West was holding the gun inside his hoodie, pointed directly at him, cursing and shouting.

He remembers the words used by West, "Alright I don't have time, just give me the money, give me the money."

Another employee was just getting to work and saw it all unfold.

He didn't want to speak on camera but says he was terrified, and called 911.

When West turned to look at that employee outside, Malik says took advantage of the moment and ran into his office.

"And suddenly my guy came out of the car, and he just looked for a second over there. I took my moment from here I straight away went to my office", said Malik.

Seconds later West calmly walked out, then ran to his car and sped off, empty handed.

Investigators eventually tracked him down on I-35, headed south.

West faces several charges including aggravated robbery and resisting arrest. His bond is $142,000.

Malik had some advice for West, "This beautiful country has lots to give, if its given that much to us why can't you go ahead and do something good for yourself, make yourself, your family, everyone proud."
