CARTWRIGHT, Okla. (KXII) - Bryan County saw a large police presence Thursday night as law enforcement arrested a man wanted in connection to a California homicide.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called to assist a police department from California in serving a warrant.
Officials say Edward Russell Smith had a warrant for homicide out of Riverside, California. He was tracked down to Cartwright.
Dozens of police vehicles surrounded a home on 2nd Avenue while nearly 20 more were in a nearby parking lot.
"When they all started blocking off the streets around here, there was like 20 of them, all of a sudden we heard there was a murder," said Cartwright resident Kevin Goforth, who was in the Dam Bar at the time.
Smith has been arrested and taken to the Bryan County Jail.
