New phone scam making rounds in Denison

DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - The City of Denison says a new phone scam has been reported to them this week by several residents.

They told city employees that they have received a call in which the caller tells them a Denison lab technician would be coming to their residence to collect a water sample this week, and asks that residents have a $50 payment ready for the test.

The city says these calls are fraudulent and not from the City of Denison.

"City staff only collects water samples from designated sampling stations or when requested by residents," the city said in a press release. "In addition, city staff will never ask to collect payment from a resident at their home."

City officials remind all utility customers that if you receive a call you think might be fraudulent, ask for a callback number or hang up.

if you get this call, they ask that you report the incident immediately to the Denison Police Department at 903-465-2422.
