ADA, Okla (KXII) -- The president was a main topic of conversation Tuesday in Ada where Oklahoma Congressman Tom Cole held a town hall meeting.

Many expressed their concerns about what's happening in Washington.

"Come 2018, I hope that the lifelong conservatives like myself can still stand behind you," an attendee said.

Cole is making four stops this month for a series of town hall meetings.

And at his first stop in Ada, attendees didn't hold back.

"I don't know if you're hearing from your constituents that he and what he has put together is a cancer to the Republican party," an attendee said.

Many were vocal about Cole's willingness to stand up to President Trump.

"President Trump dominates conversation political dialogue in a way unlike any other president I've seen," Cole said,"certainly any other president I've had the opportunity to serve with."

Jack O'hare traveled more than an hour to hear the congressman speak.

He says appreciates Cole's comments, but he has a few issues he wanted the congressman to hear.

"A number of people challenged him on issues, I think he still needs to push a little harder against his party and his president at this point," O'Hare said.

Many had one major concern.

"We're all petrified of North Korea," a resident said.

Cole called North Korea a very dangerous situation, but says he's optimistic because the country now has Chinese support.

He also addressed the events in Virginia over the weekend.

"There's no excuse for what happened in Charlottesville, zero. It's a fundamental American right to demonstrate and free speech, but when we're talking Ku Klux Klan," Cole said,"we're talking Nazis people walking around with Nazi flags, that shows historical ignorance."

Cole says he plans to be back in Ada for another town hall soon.

Cole's next stop is Norman.
