Authorities release identity of man killed by police in Cooke County

GAINESVILLE, Texas -- A suspected car thief was shot Tuesday night by a law enforcement officer in Cooke County.

Bobby Lyn Buck, 49, was shot by a Saint Jo police officer on Tuesday night in Myra, at the end of a long police chase. Buck was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The Justice of the Peace said he was shot multiple times on the left side of the torso.

Officers allege Buck carjacked a woman at the Family Dollar store in Nocona, and headed east on U.S. Highway 82. Police began the chase in St. Jo, and were in pursuit until the fatal end in Myra.

Witnesses in Myra said the suspect drove through pastures and knocked down several fences.

The chase ended on Sanders Street where a Montague County police fired at Buck.

Texas DPS said Buck Robbery had a lengthy criminal history.
