Oklahoma football royalty visits Ardmore eatery
Oklahoma Sooners legend, College Football Hall of Famer and 1978 Heisman Trophy winner Billy Sims met fans on Friday afternoon at his barbecue restaurant in Ardmore.
Sims sat with customers as they ate, and signed autographs.
"Just real, memories goes back to days when I was playing," Sims said. "Because I run into a lot of people that watched me growing up and played and they appreciate what I did for the Oklahoma Sooners, and I appreciate them being great fans."
Sims was in town celebrating the restaurant chain's recent partnership with Arbuckle Fried Pies in Davis.
The Ardmore store is a test location that will be selling seven different flavors of their dessert pies -- which have franchises across the United States.
if it does well, all Billy Sims Barbecue restaurants will carry the pies.
Sims, a running back, was also the number one pick in the 1980 NFL draft. He played running back for the Detroit Lions from 1980 -1984, making the Pro Bowl in his first three seasons.
Sims' professional football career was cut short by a knee injury he suffered in 1984.
