Three children were hospitalized Friday after being injured in an officer involved shooting out of Hugo.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says one suspect is in custody, two officers had minor injuries and three children were hospitalized.

OSBI released a statement saying the two detectives involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave.

They say that two Hugo detectives made contact with Smith while he was parked at a food center located at 400 West Bissell in Hugo and shots were fired. Smith was wounded and taken to the hospital in Paris, Texas.

"I mean my children, for crying out loud. Four innocent little children," said mother of the injured children Olivia Hill.

Smith was wanted for the April 11 armed robbery of the Hugo Pizza Hut.

"As they tried to approach the suspect, there was an incident that happened. An officer involved shooting took place," said OSBI Spokeswoman Jenny Virden.

Police say Smith was inside of a pickup with four children.

Officers say as he tried to get away he put the truck in reverse and hit one officer.

A second officer nearby was almost hit, and in fear for his safety he fired shots.

Virden was unable to say whether officers knew the kids were inside the truck when they opened fire.

"Of course we're still talking to witnesses, doing interviews and we're still truing to find out exactly what happened," said Virden.

Hill spoke to News 12 minutes before heading to Children's Hospital at Saint Francis in Tulsa to see her injured children.

"My 4-year-old daughter was shot in the head, and she has a bullet in her brain. And my 5-year-old has a skull fracture, my 1-year-old baby has gun shot wounds on her face and my 2-year-old child wasn't touched with any bullets," said Hill.

"I don't know what these injuries are. And then one child, from what I understand was not injured," said Virden.

OSBI released information on Saturday that the three kids ages five, four and one have non-life-threatening injuries.

Hugo police say Smith was shot in the incident. He was treated and released from a Paris hospital and remains in custody in Paris.

They tell us he is in custody and faces a 1st degree felony charge of aggravated robbery.

The officers were not seriously injured.

OSBI is continuing to investigate the shooting.
