Police detective chosen as Denison Employee of the Year

DENISON, Tex. (KXII) - Monday night city council awarded a Denison police officer as the employee of the year.

City manager Jud Rex presented Detective Kyle Mackey with the honor at their meeting.

Several police officers came in support and District Attorney Brett Smith attended for Mackey's recognition.

Chief Mike Gudgel said he's happy the selection came from his department and said Mackey is well-deserving.

"He's been involved in some pretty high-profile cases working with the federal government, working with the district attorney's office, obviously the state of Texas, and he just does a fantastic job daily," Gudgel said.

Gudgel also credited the city of Denison for the way they recognize their employees because it's an honor to be nominated.
