Burglary, assault now murder investigation in Howe

HOWE, Tex. (KXII) - Police in Howe are investigating the murder of a 19-year-old man at a trailer park off US Highway 75.

Police say they responded to a burglary at a residence in the 700 block of North Collins Freeway early last Tuesday morning.

Inside officers found Cory Petty had been assaulted by two men he did not know who had fled the scene before police arrived.

Petty was taken to the hospital, where he died Saturday.

Police say they are investigating Cory's death as a murder and have requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers in Sherman.

No further details have been released by police, but a family member said on a GoFundMe page that Cory had been stabbed in the assault. It also stated Cory was a father to one son.
