Former Trenton pastor accused of embezzling from church arrested for theft

TRENTON, Tex. (KXII) - Police confirm a former Trenton pastor is now facing charges for theft.

They say he turned himself in a couple months ago.

Trenton police say the amount stolen by Nathan Clinkscales totals to tens of thousands of dollars.

They wouldn't confirm an exact amount, since they're still compiling church records and adding up the numbers.

Police say Clinkscales turned himself into jail just after our story about the accusations against him aired in November.

He was suspected of embezzling from the First Baptist Church of Trenton.

It all started back in the fall when the church confirmed Clinkscales immediately resigned as pastor after being confronted with evidence.

In November, the church administration committee said in a statement they found evidence of "misappropriation of church funds."

They said they're conducting an internal examination of their financial records and are working with police in the case.

Police say Clinkscales posted bond.

They said they're waiting to receive more documents from the church as the investigation continues.
