GRAYSON COUNTY, Tex. (KXII) -- Sherman attorney Reggie Smith will be the Republican nominee for State Representative District 62 representing Grayson, Fannin and Delta counties on the November ballot.

With 71 percent of the votes, Smith defeated Grayson County electrical engineer Brent Lawson in Tuesday's runoff.

"I'm humbled, it was a great win tonight personally and for the whole team, and we're just very thankful to the voters of Grayson, Fannin and Delta Counties for the huge victory they've given me tonight," Smith said.

In November, Smith will face Valerie Hefner who ran unopposed as a Democrat and the Libertarian candidate David Schaab.

"The first thing we need to do, should I be lucky enough to win in November, is to make sure that we tackle the problem of property tax reform and school financial reform and securing the border, those are my first three priorities should I have the opportunity to serve in Austin," Smith said.

This seat was held by longtime State Rep. Larry Phillips, who announced his retirement from the House last year.
