Fire department responds to explosion near Travis St. in Sherman

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - A Sherman intersection has reopened after a fire Wednesday evening.

Around 6:20, Sherman fire department responded to an explosion from tanks off of Travis St. and Highway 82. It is believed that the explosion was caused by lightning.

The Travis Street bridge over U.S. 82 was closed due to the fire, which let off a large amount of smoke.

These tanks belong to XTO Energy. Officials say the black smoke was coming from fiberglass that make up the tanks.

The energy company was able to confirm that there was only salt water in the tanks, which is a by-product of what is made at that facility. There were no threats of another explosion.

Officials say that air quality was not affected in the area.

Sherman fire was able to put it out with the help of NTRA's fire department.
