CADDO, Okla. (KXII) - One Texoma high school is raising awareness for organ donation in honor of a former student who lost his life, then was able to give life to others.
Blue and green decorations and signs line the halls of Caddo High School to bring awareness to organ donation.
It's all inspired by one person, Triston Paris.
"Triston, he was a good kid," said Caddo High School English teacher Ashley Williams, who taught Paris.
"He was really fun. He always had a smile on his face when I was around him," said sophomore and Paris' cousin Callie Gray.
Paris was only 20-year-old when a car crash claimed his life in 2016.
The Caddo High School graduate was driving on the highway when he veered off the road and over-corrected, and his truck rolled over several times.
He died a week later, but that wouldn't be the end of his story.
"He was an organ donor," Williams said.
Paris' liver and two kidneys saved three lives, and he gave sight to two more.
He also donated tissue, which could enhance up to 75 lives.
"It makes me really happy to see what his life did. He impacted all of us in a very significant way," Gray said.
A way that inspired Paris' cousin Gray to do the same.
She signed up to be an organ donor when she got her driver's license, and Paris' former teacher Williams signed up last year.
"He made such a big impact and a difference, even though he was just a kid himself," Williams said.
April is National Donate Life Month. So for the second year in a row, the Team Triston Foundation and Caddo High School teamed up to educate students on organ donation.
"We've been handing out necklaces and ribbons and buttons," said senior Olivia Weaver.
Williams said Paris' life left a mark not only on those he saved, but for students in his hometown.
"They just get to see that they can do things to make a difference, that their lives are important," Williams said.
The Team Triston Extravaganza is on Saturday in Caddo. It's a dinner and silent auction.
Proceeds will fund scholarships for Caddo High School seniors through the Team Triston Foundation.
