Sentencing date set for Oklahoma's "Tiger King" Joe Exotic

OKLAHOMA CITY (KXII) - A sentencing date has been set for Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic, who was found guilty of murder-for-hire and more than a dozen wildlife charges.

Formal sentencing will be held January 22 at 10 a.m.

A jury convicted Maldonado-Passage in April of conspiring to kill Florida animal rights activist Carole Baskin, killing five tigers and offering to sell tiger cubs.

He will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service until his sentencing.

Maldonado-Passage ran for president in 2016 and for governor of Oklahoma in 2018.

The story will be turned into a television series with "Saturday Night Live" star Kate McKinnon as Baskin.
