Sherman hosts first jazz festival with Doc Severinsen

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - Sherman is hosting their first ever Jazz Festival this weekend.

Special guest and Grammy winner Doc Severinsen, a jazz trumpeter and leader of the band for the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson during the 1970s, will be performing Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Kidd Key Auditorium.

The event is being put on by the Sherman Jazz Museum.

Severinsen will be playing with the UNT One O' Clock Lab jazz band nominated for seven Grammy awards.

Organizers said they are passionate about putting jazz center stage in Sherman.

"I love it, I've been wanting to do this for years," said museum owner Bill Collins. "I hope we can do this for many years to come. Come out here and enjoy the music any time you get a chance."
