Sherman man arrested on 10 counts of child porn

Neighbors of Gerald Smith woke up to several law enforcement cars on their street Wednesday morning.

When one neighbor found out what smith did, she says she was disgusted, because children live nearby.

"They have lived among a pervert in our neighborhood," said the neighbor.

The woman wanted to remain anonymous, because she knows Smith and his family.

"I was awakened to my other kids saying the cops were here. We went outside, and there were probably seven or eight vehicles. We thought it was SWAT, then we realized they were at my neighbors house," she said.

Grayson County deputies, along with Sherman Police and Grand Prairie Police arrested the 35-year-old in his Sherman home on Burdette Avenue.

Captain Sarah Bigham says this investigation took a couple of months, and Smith was found because of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

That's a coalition of over 4,500 federal, state and local law agencies across the country, that traced the pictures to Smith's IP address.

Smith faces 10 counts, with the possibility of more during the investigation.

"With there being 10 charges in this case, that means he had multiple images of child pornography on his computer or electronic devices," said Capt. Bigham.

Another one of Smith's neighbor's says she was shocked to hear what he did.

"Disgusted. Sick. Glad he's been caught," said a second anonymous neighbor.

This isn't the first time Smith has had a run-in with the law, as he has been arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and had to serve probation in 2008.

Smith is in the Grayson county jail on a $750,000 bond, and this is still an ongoing investigation.
