Sherman man convicted, sentenced to 50 years for sexually assaulting a child
A Sherman man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Thursday after a jury took only five minutes to convict him of sexually assaulting a child.
Jerry Lynn Turner, 50, was found guilty Thursday morning of continuous sexual abuse of children.
In May 2018, police responded to a call that a woman walked in on Turner molesting a 5-year-old girl.
The woman said Turner grabbed a bottle of insulin and threatened to kill himself. He was treated for an intentional overdose and released to the jail.
The 5-year-old's older sister told police she had also been molested by Turner.
"This is a horrible story of mistrust, abuse, and depravity, but it ends with two little girls becoming stronger and taking back control from their abuser, a good day for justice, " said District Attorney Brett Smith.
Turner will serve all 50 years without the possibility of parole.
