A man is facing charges in Sherman after police say he attempted to steal $700 worth of equipment from Home Depot, but employees had some help apprehending him.

Sherman police say Ted Goldsmith was trying to steal an edger and a blower, and had pushed a loss prevention employee trying to stop him.

They say that's when an off-duty Denison Police Officer stepped in.

Police say Goldsmith was briefly held at gunpoint by the off-duty officer, who then arrested him just outside the store.

Goldsmith faces a robbery charge and was booked into the Grayson County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
