Sherman's '50s-themed MG's changing locations

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) -- After 36 years, a popular Sherman restaurant is moving to a new location.

"It's kind of like a family here so it means a lot for everyone to still come in here and enjoy our food and service," said Chanel Stiggers, MG's manager.

"The food is awesome, the environment, the nostalgia," said customer, Louann Stanford.

MG's has been at this location on Woods and Fairview Streets in Sherman since 1982.

It's been a favorite with Texomans for years.

"Ever since I was a teenager."

But Stiggers said after 36 years at their location, they're in need of more space.

"We're running out of space. Like we're so busy and people are like out the door," said Stiggers. "There aren't enough seats."

The new 3,000 square foot MG's will be just two doors down at the old gas station.

And construction has already begun.

"We're renovating the gas station and we're going to re-do the inside and we're going add on to the back to make it bigger," Stiggers said.

Stiggers says the drive-thru will be new and improved. And there will be more parking available.

But through all the change, the '50s theme and staple menu items will stay the same.

"That's great as long as the food stays like it is, it's wonderful," Stanford said.

As for the building their currently in, Stiggers says they're not sure what they will use it for.

"It would be something [like] a restaurant but we don't know," she said.

The new location is set to open sometime in June.
