ROXTON, Tex. (KXII) -- The Lamar County Sheriff's office is investigating a shooting that left one man dead.

It happened in the early morning hours of New Years Day.

Deputies were called out for shots fired and an assault at a house on Wight Street, near Bent Alley, in Roxton and found Justin Lloyd Springer, 34, shot once in the abdomen.

Springer was taken to a Dallas area hospital where he later died.

He was a relative of the people who live at the house.

Deputies say he got into an altercation with one of them -- who fired the fatal shot.

Sheriff's detectives as well as the Texas Rangers are investigating.
