CALERA, Okla. (KXII) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirms an 11-year-old boy died from a gunshot wound Thursday night.

It happened in the 100 block of Sterret Road in Calera around 8:30 p.m.

Calera Police Chief Don Hyde says the boy was the son of one of his officers and called the shooting an accident in a Facebook post.

Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian requested OSBI assistance, and their Crime Scene and Investigative Units responded to the scene.

A press release from the OSBI Friday did not clarify who fired the shot and stated their investigation was ongoing.

Donations to the officer's family can be made through the Calera Families in Need fund at First United Bank.
