State legislators talk policy at Ardmore luncheon

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - Three state legislators gave their accounts of the first trimester at the state capital in Ardmore Friday afternoon.

Senator Frank Simpson and Representatives Tammy Townley and Tommy Hardin talked to attendees on topics like constitutional carry and cost of living adjustments for retired teachers and firefighters.

Simpson says giving teachers additional funding has been a big topic, whether to give them pay raise or tax breaks on classroom supplies.

But Simpson says he thinks setting aside money for teachers to use in the classrooms is the best action.

"And, therefore, teachers won't have to spend money for supplies in the class room and that would do away with the need for a tax credit that we're offering teachers next year," said Simpson.

The Ardmore Chamber of Commerce will hold a luncheon with county officials on March 29. Another luncheon with Simpson, Townley and Hardin will be held April 12.
