SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - A Sherman teen has been given four concurrent 40 year sentences for a series of home burglaries.
Grayson County District Attorney Brett Smith says Tyrontae Cooper, 17, committed a number of daytime burglaries in Sherman over the span of five months in 2018.
One of the homes targeted by Cooper belonged to a law enforcement officer. Smith says Cooper broke into the home twice.
Smith says Cooper's lengthy juvenile criminal history is the cause for the stiff sentence.
"At some point we just have to put public safety over all other considerations," said Smith.
Cooper pleaded guilty to four counts of burglary in December.
