AUSTIN, Tex. (KXII) - Thousands of teachers and school staff throughout Texas gathered at the State Capitol today to demand more funding for public school students, staff and retired educators.
They are asking lawmakers to pass legislation to enact changes to standardized testing and restore billions of dollars in cuts to public education.
They are asking for an across-the-board pay raise for teachers, nurses, librarians and counselors.
Teachers say they want to abandon "performance pay" programs that they say waste much-needed resources and act as an unfair and divisive means of compensation.
