SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) A total of seven people have died as a result of traffic-related accidents since Friday night.
The latest wreck happened at mile marker 18 on I-35 in Love County just before 4 a.m. Sunday.
Troopers said 27-year-old Sarah Hayes of Ardmore was driving the wrong way down the highway when she hit an SUV driven by 60-year-old Roger Fant of Joshua, Texas, head-on.
Hayes and Fant both died at the scene.
Hayes struck a third vehicle after the initial collision but no one in that truck was seriously injured.
That wreck remains under investigation.
On Saturday afternoon, 38-year-old Durant resident Jeremy Scott Alexander was killed on the Roosevelt Bridge and Highway 70 when a Jeep came into his lane and hit him head-on.
We’re told the driver of that Jeep, Durant resident Nam Ky Duong, was going east on the bridge trying to pass a pickup truck on the right shoulder when the two collided, knocking him into Alexander’s lane, who was traveling west.
Duong and his passenger were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, along with Alexander’s passenger. No one in the pickup truck was hurt.
Saturday morning, 66-year-old James Cooley of Van Alstyne was killed while riding a motorcycle through Anna.
Officials said it happened on US Highway 75 Southbound between Mantua Rd and FM 455.
What exactly happened is still under investigation, but we’re told it also involved an SUV carrying a family of 7 from out of state.
Two children were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
56-year-old Thomas Scott Elliot of Denison was killed Friday night, police said, after he drove an SUV into the National Guard Armory on Loy Lake Road.
Police believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash but the cause is still under investigation.
Earlier that night, Texas state troopers said two pedestrians were killed in Luella after being hit on Highway 11 near Watkins Road.
No further information has been released on that accident.
