Council approves Sherman's largest development to date

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) Sherman's biggest residential and commercial project was approved in Sherman's city council Tuesday night.

The project, developed by Munson Realty Co., will be a hybrid between commercial and residential properties. It will be located on South FM 1417 across from O.B. Groner Rd near the new Sherman High School.

The next step in this 600-acre project is a groundbreaking, which Sherman city communications manager Nate Strauch says could be coming up in 2020.

"There were a number of hoops that we had to jump through," said Strauch. "And tonight the city council approved the two plans for developments that we've been working on for a number of years."

With Sherman's employment rate getting stronger every day, developers say they want to help the city reach its full potential as it inches closer to its full capacity.

"Sherman is going to continue to grow," said John Ruggieri, the Vice President Director of Urban Design for Hoeffer Wysocki. He says this project has been two years in the making.

"The planned development gives us the opportunity to create a real, full, robust development, the way traditional towns used to be developed," Ruggieri said.
