Three Bennington city officials resign

BENNINGTON, Okla. (KXII) -- Three Bennington city officials resigned from their positions at Friday morning's city council meeting.

Mayor Idanell Wright has resigned following a lengthy dispute of the legality of her position.

She had lost her seat at the city council election back in April, but later claimed the election was invalid saying her seat was not up for re-election.

Council member Emily Hyde resigned as well. Both seats will be filled at the next regular council meeting.

Bennington Police Chief Kris Robinson also put in a two-week resignation notice.

That resignation falls on the heels of State Rep. Justin Humphrey asking troopers back in September to investigate the police department's ticket writing practices. But Robinson said he is leaving to take a new job and will remain a reserve officer.

Assistant Chief Chabon Williamson will take over as chief Dec. 10.
