Tom Bean church burns down after lightning strike
A Tom Bean church is destroyed after it was struck by lightning during a storm early Saturday morning.
The Grayson County Fire Marshal sais around four volunteer fire departments were called to the First United Methodist Church just after 2 a.m.
Firefighters were on the scene for around nine hours until 11 a.m. putting out the flames.
Reverend Trent Baggett said the fire started when lightning struck the steeple.
He said the sanctuary is a total loss, but other areas of the building are okay.
"My job is to help them understand that Christ is with us always, no matter what happens, and we're going to be taken care of," Baggett said.
The church plans on continuing online services.
