Tom Bean teen 'lucky to be alive' after being rear ended, thrown into moving school bus

TOM BEAN, Tex. (KXII) -- A 17-year-old from Tom Bean is thankful to be alive after he said his truck was rear ended, causing him to swerve into a moving Leonard ISD school bus.

Tristan Punzel said he was pulling into his driveway Friday at around 3:30 p.m. when it all happened.

"I looked into my rear view mirror and saw a truck coming at me really fast," Punzel said. "They hit me and pushed me into the other lane right into a school bus, and the school bus hit me and pushed me all the way back over here."

Police said there were no serious injuries from any of the three vehicles involved, but added the wreck could have easily been fatal if somebody was riding in Punzel's passenger side.

The Leonard ISD school bus was carrying volleyball players on their way to a game in Howe.

Punzel said he was shaken up, but isn't holding any grudges.

"I don't blame anyone because accidents happen," Punzel said. "I would say try to let it go."

Police said they're still investigating and haven't said if anyone will be charged.

"I'm glad to be alive," Punzel said.
