Trial begins for Sherman man accused of girlfriend's fatal assault
The trial of a man accused of fatally assaulting his girlfriend is underway.
Sherman police arrested John Kennedy
on charges of assault, robbery and unlawful restraint.
Officers say Kennedy beat his girlfriend, Rhonda Jordan, over an argument about money.
Jordan died from brain injuries five days later.
The September 2018 indictment states Kennedy has prior convictions for DWI and drugs which could increase his range of punishment if found guilty.
