Trial set for Sherman man accused of fatally assaulting girlfriend

SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - A trial date has been set for a Sherman man accused of beating his girlfriend to death.

John Francis Kennedy is in jail for assault, aggravated robbery and unlawful restraint.

Kennedy was arrested last January after police say he beat his girlfriend, Rhonda Jordan, over an argument about money.

Jordan died from brain injures five days later.

According to the indictment, Kennedy has prior convictions for DWI and drugs, which could increase his sentence if found guilty.

The trial is set for July.
