SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) -- President Donald Trump nominated several candidates on Thursday to fill judicial vacancies in the federal district courts, including one in the Sherman division.
If confirmed, Jeff Mateer will serve as a District Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman division.
Mateer is the First Assistant Attorney General of Texas, overseeing the Office of Attorney General of Texas, including supervision of the State’s active litigation matters.
Mateer was general counsel and executive vice president of the First Liberty Institute, where his practice focused primarily on defending religious liberty.
Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz nominated Mateer for the post.
Mateer is a SMU School of Law graduate.
