Volunteers serve free lunch on Sundays

ARDMORE, Okla. (KXII) - "We call it bread break," Jeff Hobbs said. "It's just to welcome all people for a free plate and to sit down and have a conversation. Anybody and everybody is welcome and we just wanted to bring everybody together."

For the second week in a row Jeff Hobbs along with the help of several other volunteers put on the free lunch outside the Hobbs Eyecare office on Broadway Street.

Hobbs says the idea came about after speaking with someone who was in need of a meal and a conversation.

"One day we just decided to use the space we had to utilize this and we put the banner out and we just ran with it," Hobbs said.

Despite the hot weather, volunteers like Brandy Stewart spent their afternoon cooking and serving the donated food to anyone who shows up.

"I think it's just everybody coming out and enjoying just sitting down talking to someone whether they know them or not and seeing another smiling face and knowing that the genuine kindness of humanity still is there," Stewart said.

The event takes place every Sunday from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. with a different kind of meal being cooked up each time.

"I think it's happy for them to meet new people and have a well meal," Volunteer Amarah Grover said.

"They can just come and have someone they know they can talk to," Volunteer Livia Hobbs said.
