WHITESBORO, Texas (KXII) -- Thousands of active and veteran service members have fought for our country in various parts of the world without certain items being available to them.
That's what inspired Whitesboro attorney Richard Barron to start this donation drive to create care packages.
"These care packages will be assembled and sent out to the various active duty personnel and also to any of our homeless veterans," attorney Richard Barron said.
And be available to all local veterans who have served.
The care packages include toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap bars, and reading material.
Barron being a veteran himself flying choppers in Vietnam, he understands the impact that a simple care package can make on them.
"I remember getting care packages," Barron said. "You know, gave us of an uplift to have people remember that you are serving in these areas that you know may be war areas or they may not be. It's still a long ways from home."
Despite being only a few miles away from veterans or two thousands miles away from active service members, Barron wants to show them that they are always on our minds.
"So if we can do any to show our support, to show that they haven't be forgotten, you know we want to provide them with something that physically or shows that we do have their well being in mind," Barron said.
These items may seem small to the average person, but a small care package is a symbol of appreciation shown to our veterans and active service members.
Donations will be accepted through Memorial Day on May 29th and Barron also plans on selling custom made t-shirts to be sold to raise money for the care packages.
