Wilson man found guilty for assaulting, robbing pastor in 2018
A Wilson man will likely spend the next 30 years behind bars after assaulting and robbing a pastor in his own church parking lot in 2018.
A Carter County jury found 41-year-old Allen Fox guilty of robbery on Tuesday.
Court documents say Fox and another man committed the felony at Rexroat Baptist Church, north of Wilson, in July.
Sheriff Chris Bryant said one of his deputies took the call.
"The pastor there had been robbed and hit in the head twice," Bryant said.
Court documents say the pastor was pulling into the parking lot of the church when he noticed two men in a white Chevrolet truck with the hood up.
The pastor walked up to the men offering to help with their car troubles.
The two men then began hitting the pastor, holding him at gun point before knocking him unconscious.
The pastor woke up to see the truck driving away and noticed $560 in cash was taken from his wallet.
Fox was arrested about a week later but authorities had trouble identifying the second man, trying every option.
"The deputies and the investigators worked countless hours on this trying to find out who this other individual was and we weren't able to prevail," Bryant said.
The pastor of the church declined comment on the story.
Fox's official sentencing is set for June 12.
He could get 10 years to life in prison.
The jury recommended 30 years.
