Woman sentenced in federal court for stealing $20,000 from Choctaw Nation

DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - A Choctaw Nation employee who pleaded guilty to embezzlement will avoid jail time if she pays back to $20,000 she stole from her employer.

Federal prosecutors say Nicole Loper, 43, of Durant embezzled the money between 2016 and 2018. U.S. Attorney Brian Kuester says Loper used the $20,000 to pay rent for family members and for personal use.

Loper was the Project SAFE Coordinator for the Choctaw Nation. Project SAFE assists in domestic violence prevention.

Thursday, Loper was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to pay restitution in full to the Choctaw Nation.
