ATOKA COUNTY, Okla. (KXII) - A man is dead after his wife shot him in the chest over the weekend in Atoka County.

Investigators say the shooting happened here at a home off Highway 3 near Cold Springs Road.

They say a woman called the sheriff's office saying she accidentally shot her husband.

"Please don't die please don't die. My husband got shot. He's breathing, I have my arms on him. I have three kids here."

That was the 911 phone call Heather Calhoun made Sunday night around 11:15 from her Atoka County home.

"The lady stated she had shot her husband by accident," said Atoka Co. Undersheriff Tony Taylor.

"Who shot him?"
"I accidentally shot him," she told dispatchers in the 911 call.

Taylor said deputies had been at the home that morning around 5 a.m. for a fight between her and her husband Barry "Nick" Calhoun.

"They was having an altercation, then it was taken care of," Taylor said.

Hours later, she said this in the call.

"I need an ambulance. He was breathing and now he's not."

When deputies and paramedics arrived, Nick Calhoun was already dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.

"It's a sad situation. I wish people could get along," Taylor said.

No arrests have been made.

The OSBI is calling it a suspicious death. Taylor said the case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office.

The OSBI has taken over the investigation.
