Wrecks shut down southbound US-75 in Howe

At least two accidents have shut down southbound traffic on US Highway 75 in Howe Thursday afternoon.

The first happened at the Haning St. exit around 11:30 a.m. and involved an overturned semi truck hauling used transmissions and engines.

A tire blew on the semi, causing the driver to lose control and the trailer to topple over. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Many local fire departments and DPS Troopers, as well as Howe police and TxDOT workers helped with traffic and cleanup. A haz-mat team was called in to clean up oil spilled on the road.

Another wreck happened three miles north, near the Shepherd Rd exit. Troopers say a vehicle was pushed into the back of a semi by an inattentive driver. Two people were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Southbound traffic was shut down at the Shepherd exit for at least two hours but has since reopened.
