Wynnewood officer nearly shot by suicidal man

A Wynnewood police officer was nearly shot by a suicidal man who also threatened to kill others.
On Tues. Sept. 11, Officer Kenny Cook responded to a call near the intersection of Chickasaw and Robberson.
"When I went to the residence, I knocked on the door," Cook said. "There was two little boys that answered the door. They were really small and I could tell they were scared. There was something wrong."
Cook says 34-year-old Matthew Harris of Pauls Valley had broken into the house and threatened to kill the boys and their mother.
Cook told the boys and the woman to go outside.
Harris was holding a hand gun and threatened to kill himself.
"And he says, well... I'll shoot you and make you kill me," Cook said.
Cook was able to talk to Harris and grab the gun from his hand, but Harris pulled out a second hand gun and pointed it at his own head.
Harris backed out of a side door and yelled he was going to shoot.
Cook was able to wrestle him to the ground but Harris still tried to shoot himself.
That is when Harris pointed the gun at Cook.
"Right when he fired, I hit him right at the right moment which made the bullet miss me," Cook said.
Drew Sandoval lives next door and was shocked to learn what happened just feet from his home.
"A cop runs around the house and then about, maybe two minutes went by and it was just silent. Then, BOW, a gun shot."
People on social media are calling Cook a hero, but he thinks otherwise.
"You just do what you've got to do," he said. "I wouldn't call that no hero."
Harris is in the Garvin county jail without bond facing eight felony charges for kidnapping, shooting with intent to kill, and assault and battery. He also faces rape charges from another incident.
A report said Harris hit the woman in the back of the head but she's expected to recover. The two boys were not harmed.
